I am a Ford

I tried this in a Hang yesterday and it didn’t get the response I thought it would.

So, I’ll put it out here in FB land and maybe it’s “meant” for someone else.

I thought it was quite nuanced in what I was trying to put across.

Seems that people are looking for more information about this “I” thing.

They want to find their authentic self.

They want to find their true purpose.

They want to find the truth of who they are.

The want to find the “real me”.

On and on and on and on.

From over there, there is something very different from the above in:

“I’m looking for a deeper understanding of this character.”

“I’m looking for a deeper understanding of what motivates this character.”

“I’m looking for the deeper motivations of this character.”

“I’m looking to get more nuanced in the presentation/understanding of this character.”

As I was doing my PT stuff yesterday, “We are gasoline.” popped into my head.

“Huh?”

“We are gasoline.”

“Uh, ok. We are gasoline.”

And to myself, “What the fuck does that mean?”

Sometimes, there is a quality to the feel of the internal voice where I’m pretty sure that I’m just to agree with it and then figure it out on my own.

As I played with it, I started laughing.

We are gasoline being used to enliven vehicles.

Our experience is neither the car nor the gasoline.

We only have experiences when the gasoline is ignited and the vehicle animated.

We tends towards believing that this gasoline-ignited/vehicle-animate experience is “I”.

And we can pour gasoline into many different vehicles.

Gasoline doesn’t care.

We can animate any character.

The characters themselves don’t care.

We were born into a family of Fords.

We are taught to be a Ford.

We do things as Fords do things.

We identify as a Ford.

We modify ourselves as Fords modify themselves.

As you drive down the paths of your life, you are interpreting things through the meaning-makings of Fords.

No matter what it is that you are experiencing, it is through the lenses of a character.

You are not having naked experiences.

Humans do not directly perceive.

When you get to the point where your experience of your experience is seen as coming through a lens of a character…that makes for some interesting times.

All of a sudden, the things that seems so near and dear to you, that seemed sooooo important, so meaning-full…all of these values…they are just one character’s interpretations.

The potential for experience is the gasoline.

The vehicle for experience is character.

Your experience is the what happens when the ignition happens and the vehicle enlivened.

That is the thing you have been taught is “I”.
