Your head doesn't actually explode
/One of the great things about working with groups within which are different levels of competency about different things, is that, occasionally, someone does something that is way out of the range of some and yet, there it is, it’s being done right in front of you.
From a Dojo POV, there is no reason why you can’t switch from one experiential state to another, at your choice. There is nothing hard-wired into human that says you have to stay where you are, experientially, until it’s done with you.
Sure, it might take some training, but it’s a doable thing.
It doesn’t matter where you’re at in the moment, you can choose to step off those experiential tracks and step onto another set.
Which is what happened yesterday in Hang.
Some looked like they were deep in an experience.
They were presented with the possibility of getting completely back to ground in 10 seconds.
They did it.
It’s a skill set.
The meta for why it might be a handy thing to have in your kit bag is that there might be a time when you are most def feeling one thing and in feeling that thing, you are unable to do something else. So, using this skill, you shift.
It is also a useful lesson to yourself that even if your BOS is telling you that you have to stay in this place, that there is no way out, you can most def get your self out of that place.
Helps in the de-self-identification with any particular character.
Another thing that showed up is, “If you want a certain experience in your life and you believe that in order to have that different experience, you’re going to have to be different, you are going to have to do something that is un-PC for your character.
By definition.
If you could have that experience and still stay in character, wouldn’t you already have it?
Now, there is easy un-PC, moderate un-PC, difficult un-PC, and no-way-in-hell un-PC.
The experience is the same, just different concentrations of “you don’t want to do this”.
So, start off with the easy ones, prove to yourself that your head doesn’t actually explode, and move along.
I want my coaching business to be successful in a different way than it is.
I’ve tried a bunch of things and they don’t work.
I’ve tried the things that are PC for my character around this issue.
They don’t work.
Now, I am going to try things that are un-PC for my character.
I am taking coaching from a few people about different parts of it.
Does my character like it?
Hell, no.
Does it feel natural?
Hell, no.
Do I feel like I suck at this and am never going to get it right?
Absolutely.
Do I feel like I’m going to be the object of ridicule?
Absolutely.
Do I want to fuck up, fall on my face, be the evidence that I don’t know what I’m doing?
Hell, no.
Am I doing my exercises.
Hell, yes.
Am I having reactions about my exercises?
Hell, yes.
Have I seen any substantial benefit from my efforts?
Not fucking yet.
I will keep on doing them, probably at least 3 or 4 times.
I know that if I want to have the difference I want that my current character can’t provide, I am going to have to learn new values, new vocabulary, and new skill sets.
